Trauma-Informed: Understanding Neurobiology, Symptoms and Trauma Responses (TIMT-1)

Trauma and adversity are unfortunately common across settings and clients of music therapy.  Despite the clinical setting or level of practice, trauma should be a consideration in your music therapy practice.  In this 5 CMTE hybrid/online course, participants will be introduced to the neurobiology of trauma and learn to identify signs and symptoms of trauma.  Definitions of trauma, trauma-informed care, as well as types of trauma will be covered.

Objectives:
Participants will demonstrate understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain and define at least 3 major symptoms of trauma. CBMT: I 5, 8, 10; II B 3e, 4l
Participants will demonstrate understanding of the principles of trauma-informed practice in music therapy and how they inform clinical thinking and treatment planning and implementation.  CBMT II D5, 9, III A 2 c, g, 3 a-g

Schedule
•    Pre-work: 50 minutes assigned reading and written reflection. (This will be emailed to you prior to the course)
•    50 minutes: Defining Trauma.
•    50 minutes: Neurobiology of Trauma.
•    50 minutes: Trauma Symptoms and Principles of Trauma-Informed Care.
•    Post-work: 50 minutes follow-up reading and written reflection.  Complete evaluation to receive certificate.
