Principles of Trauma-Informed Care for Music Therapists

ASYNCHRONOUS.

To be trauma-informed, music therapists must have a strong working knowledge of SAMHSA’s 6 Principles of Trauma-Informed Care and concrete strategies for implementing these principles into their clinical work and professional systems.  In this 5 CMTE asynchronous course, participants will be introduced to each of the 6 Principles of Trauma-Informed Care and encouraged to apply them to their own clinical work and work settings.  Through video and interactive journaling, participants will reflect on each principle and create an implementation plan.

Objectives:

Participants will demonstrate understanding of 6 principles of trauma-informed practice in music therapy. CBMT II D5, 9, III A 2 c, g, 3 a-g

Participants will create an action plan for implementing at least 3 of these principles in their clinical work. CBMT V A 1-2

Schedule (online, fully asynchronous)

  • 50 minutes assigned reading and introductory video.
  • 150 minutes: Short videos outlining each of the Principles of Trauma-Informed Care, followed by reflective guided journaling.
  • 50 minutes: Creation of implementation plan.

Prerequisites None, TIMT-1 Neurobiology Suggested
